Tyre Supply for IPRA Nationals at Island Magic, 21-22 November 2009

Official statement from IPRA Victoria, 11/11/2009

Traction Tyres have this afternoon confirmed that the 225/50/15 tyres are on their way to Victoria and they will be able to supply for the Nationals.  It should be noted that Traction Tyres were never out of stock of this tyre size, it was simply that the demand over the past fortnight has been significant i.e. requests for over 3 months of stock within the past 1-2 weeks. The situation is of little fault of Yokohama or Traction Tyres as it is a requirement of the contract between IPRA Australia and Yokohama that competitors must give at least 30 days notice of their tyre requirements.  Traction and Yokohama Australia have worked tirelessly to respond to the situation. At great cost to them, Yokohama and Traction Tyres have secured additional supplies which have been air freighted in readiness for the Nationals. This response has been above and beyond their contractual obligations.  IPRA Victoria would like to take this opportunity to thank both Yokohama Australia and Traction Tyres for their efforts in this matter.

Q: I pre-registered and paid $100 deposit and now I have to cancel.  Can I get my $100 deposit back?

A:  Please let us know before 31 October to ensure a full refund and enable us to allocate your position to someone on the reserve list.

Q: How is the Yokohama sponsorship money being used this year?

A:  For the past few years there has been approximately $8000 of Yokohama sponsorship money allocated for tow money at the IPRA Nationals.  Tow money was then divided amongst the interstate competitors who attended the Nationals event.

For this year’s Nationals at Phillip Island the Victorian Committee has decided to use the $8000 to subsidise the entry fee.  With an unprecedented number of entrants expected, subsidising the entry fee has the dual benefit of easing the administrative burden for the Committee in splitting and reimbursing money, as well as enabling us to provide benefit across the entire competitor group.  Please be aware that with approximately 60 interstate entrants already entered for the event the tow money allocation was not going to be a substantial amount - approximately $135 per interstate entrant.

In preparing the budget for the 2009 Nationals some 12 months ago, the Vic Committee had a few particular goals it wanted to realise.  With the lack of additional sponsorship on offer it became obvious that to achieve these goals, the Club would have to dip into its own funds to make the event as cost effective as possible, all the while making the event as good as it can be.  So please be assured that each Nationals entrant is receiving above and beyond the $135 tow money that could have been put on offer and that IPRA Victoria is putting in a few thousand dollars of its own money to support this event.

Q: How many weekend/gate passes are included with my Entry fee?

A:  Each entrant will receive 5 weekend gate passes with their Entry.  That includes one for the competitor plus four guest passes.  Additional passes are available by pre-order at a discounted rate of "buy 5, get 1 free".  Otherwise tickets will be available on the day at the Gate.

Q: How much are entry fees?

A:  3 day package is $680.00 which includes Friday practice, 3 day garage/powered marquee access.   2 day package is $490.00 which includes Saturday/Sunday track time and garage/powered marquee access.  Take $100 off these amounts if you already paid a $100 deposit with pre-registration.  All cheques are to be made payable to IPRA Victoria.  This includes payments for Friday practice, entry and additional weekend passes.

Q: When will entry forms be mailed out?

A:  Entry forms have been mailed out.  You can now also find entry forms electronically on the IPRA Vic Nationals webpage.

Q: How do I know my registration/entry and payment has been received by IPRA Vic?

A:  We will soon be posting a list of registrations/entries received online.  In the mean time, if you are concerned that your registration/entry may not have been received, please email us as nationals@ipravic.com.au

Q: Will there be TV coverage of the 2009 IPRA Nationals?

A: At this stage we are not aware of any TV coverage of Island Magic or IPRA Nationals. We will advise if this situation changes.

Q: What space(s) do competitors need to reserve for Category sponsor stickers?

A:  At this stage please reserve the top windscreen banner, top of the rear window and the spot above the number panels on the doors for category sponsor stickers.  We are in the final stages of negotiating sponsorship arrangements and will confirm details, including your obligations, as soon as possible.

Q: How much will additional tickets cost for the Saturday night social function?

A: We are aiming to offer a reasonably priced social function for all competitors and their family and friends.  Each competitor will receive a complimentary ticket to the function (not transferable).  We anticipate additional tickets will be no more than $35 per person (cheaper for children) and drinks available at reasonable bar prices.  Final cost per person depends on a number of factors which we are continuing to negotiate and finalise.  As soon as we have further details we will publish them on this website.

Q: How long does it take to get to Phillip Island from Melbourne Airport?

A:  It takes approximately 2 hours to drive from Melbourne Airport to Phillip Island (via the Citylink Tollway).  Refer attached map and directions: http://www.whereis.com/?id=90515340909CDD

Q: What fuel is available at the track?

A: Supplementary regulations state: "Both leaded and unleaded racing fuel will be available at the circuit from JFP. Competitors are reminded that fuel must be in accordance with Schedule G of the CAMS Manual.

Q:  Is there a service station near the track that supplies 98 octane fuel?

A: Yes, there is a BP Ultimate in Cowes (about 10 minutes drive from the track).  However please note that the Supplementary Regulations are likely to contain further information about what fuel will be available at the track and what you are permitted to bring with you.
