IMPROVED PRODUCTION ON 12 HOUR PROGRAM AGAIN | |||||

|
For the second year in a row, Improved Production race cars will be competing at the prestigious Bathurst 12 Hour. The popular grassroots category will again be a featured support act to the once-around-the-clock production car race from February 19-21 in 2010. Event promoter James O’Brien and category officials from the IPRA of NSW signed off on an agreement last weekend where Improved Production will contest three races, one on Friday February 19 and two further events on the Saturday. IPRA category manager Garry Mennell predicts another capacity field from across Australia will journey to the famous Mt Panorama circuit early next year. “We had a full field of 55 cars there in 2009 and already the expressions of interest to go back have exceeded that,” he enthused. “James was extremely pleased with our effort this year and was keen to invite us back and getting all this locked into place so early also has its obvious benefits with organisational planning, entries etc.” The winner of the IPRA Bathurst Challenge, Tony Wallis from South Australia is expected to head the entry list in his Mazda 808 but could be overshadowed by the hugely anticipated and long overdue clash of the super Falcons of Tasmanian Ray Hislop and Victorian Rick Newman in their respective BF and AU Ford V8s. Also in the mix will be Leigh Forrest’s turbocharged Toyota Celica from the Apple Isle, Queenslander David Skillender in his big engined Holden Commodore V8 as well as the numerous Mazda RX7s that are the mainstay of the category plus the class within field of under-two-litre pocket rockets.
