How Good is your Roll Cage ???

Those of you that know Geoff Dunkin would be aware that anything the man does, its done properly............... As a member of Dunkin Brothers Racing for over 12 years, one thing that has been drummed into my head is Safety comes first, check everything twice then get someone else to check it to be sure! Well this methodology has paid dividends. Phillip Island - Friday practice, our second session I stood on the second level observation platform watching #82 head down the main straight. As usual the car disappears for about 15 seconds then comes back into view. "Not this Time".

It turns out Geoff had a little excursion at around 140kph on the short straight between Southern loop and the sweeper into Honda. It appears something broke in the rear, thrusting the car to the in field. After striking an earth embankment, the car rolled at least 3 times suffering direct impact to the drivers door, front LHS pillar and rear RHS quarter panel. My first thought is obvious, is Geoff Ok?

Well he was, a small graze on the head from glass & one sore rib under the right arm, was the extent of it, not to mention lots of questions. Geoff walked away !!!!!!! Believe it or not we are pretty pleased with the outcome, our car was built with a well engineered cage incorporating 3 horizontal and 2 vertical intrusion bars in the drivers door.

The season looks like being over for #82. The team is currently looking at forward options.

My Question To You Is..........HOW GOOD'S YOUR ROLL CAGE ??????

Has been Run and Won
The kart day was a great success with 20 odd competitors turning up for a friendly social outing. Well that was the plan. By the end of the day we had 4 broken ribs, 1 broken collar bone and an ex president trying to re-break his neck by running head on into a wall at top speed, but other than that no sheep stations were on offer. It was commented afterwards that it wouldn't have mattered if it was shopping trolleys or ride on lawn mowers, the end result would have been the same. After some dodgy second race switcheroos with a certain current president taking on the alias of "Michelle" and commandeering her kart to show everyone what power to weight ratio means, the carnage, I mean racing began. Yellow flag etiquette was at its best with the usual hand up foot down technique being observed. The upshot after all the carnage was a bbq, a few lies told, apologies given and alcohol consumed. In the end, Cameron McKinnon was declared the winner, the rest of us declared losers. Friendly day out? Sure................"Thanks for the rundown Paul"

Sandown Round 1 2008 Been and Gone!

A great weekend of racing with fantastic results for Anthony Wallis, Steven Lloyd and Gary McKay. With Mr consistency John Zorkas just outside of the top 3. A disappointing end to the weekend for Neil Crow & Geoff Dunkin, both suffering diff related issues in their commodores. Crow was unable repair the vehicle to start race 4 & Dunkin's crew replaced the diff only to find a gearbox issue, finishing the race in first gear. Ruta finished 5th, Phil Dunkin had a good result starting from the rear of field twice to finish 6th, James Atkinson with a brand new car (hoping just to just finish) ended the weekend with a very consistent 7th followed by Tom Prentice, Cam McMinnon & Chris Massey rounding out the top 10.

Comment of the weekend - I'm not touching it!! It can stay on the trailer and go to Bathurst as is!! - Good work Gary.
